Take Action to Advance the Healthy Families Act

May 26, 2015

Earlier this spring, a bipartisan majority of U.S. senators voted in favor of a nonbinding paid sick days budget amendment. For paid sick days advocates, this promising development was a unique opportunity for action and accountability. Today, the work to turn that symbolic vote into meaningful support continues. And your help is critical.

There are still 34 senators who voted for paid sick days who have not yet co-sponsored the Healthy Families Act – the federal bill that would establish the national paid sick days standard the country needs. These senators need to hear that their constituents, including workers, in-state advocates and supportive employers, are paying attention while they are in their home states this week.

Using these talking points as a guide, here is how you, your co-workers, members and partner organizations can help keep the pressure on: Earlier this spring, a bipartisan majority of U.S. senators voted in favor of a nonbinding paid sick days budget amendment.

  • Send emails to your senator(s);
  • Publish a blog post(s);
  • Submit an op-ed(s) to your state or local newspaper; and
  • Call your senator(s)’s office.
